Successful Debut at the German Concrete Canoe Regatta – OAT supports students from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences

Two self-designed concrete canoes, an innovative construction concept and impressive sporting achievements: a student team from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences celebrated a successful debut at the 20th German Concrete Canoe Regatta. Otto Alte-Teigeler proudly supported the project as a sponsor.

The 20th German Concrete Canoe Regatta took place on 19 and 20 June 2026 in Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany. More than 1,000 students from around 50 national and international universities and educational institutions presented their concrete canoe designs and competed in a variety of engineering and racing disciplines.

Representing Anhalt University of Applied Sciences for the first time were 15 students from the Bachelor’s programme in Architecture and one student from the Bachelor’s programme in Design at the Dessau campus. Over several months, the team designed and built two concrete canoes, “Oskar Schneller” and “Walter Bootius”, weighing approximately 55 and 65 kilograms respectively.

One of the highlights of the project was the students’ innovative modular formwork system. By rearranging individual formwork elements, different hull geometries can be created using the same system. This creative engineering approach impressed the competition jury and earned the team an outstanding third place in the “Construction” category.

The team also achieved remarkable sporting success. Both the women’s and mixed teams reached the semi-finals, while the men’s team advanced to the final with “Oskar Schneller”, finishing in an excellent fourth place.

As a company closely connected to the concrete construction industry, Otto Alte-Teigeler is proud to have supported this outstanding project. The students’ commitment, technical expertise and innovative thinking demonstrate the importance of combining academic education with practical experience. Supporting young engineering talent and forward-looking construction projects is an investment in the future of our industry.

We congratulate the entire team on this impressive debut and their outstanding achievements at the German Concrete Canoe Regatta.
